Customs & VAT — how it works
Duty-free threshold
Goods valued under NOK 350 (approx. €30 / $33) are generally exempt from customs duties. However, since the 2024 VOEC reform:
- VAT (25% MVA) is owed regardless — the old NOK 350 exemption for tax was abolished.
- For unregistered sellers (most small European shops), the carrier collects VAT upon delivery, plus a handling fee.
- For orders over NOK 350: customs duties also apply (rate depends on the product's HS tariff code — commonly 0–12% for seeds, books, and household goods).
Total cost example
Without shipping and handling fees, a €30 order would cost ~€7.50 in Norwegian MVA.
VOEC — what it means
Norway's VOEC(VAT on E-Commerce) scheme lets foreign merchants collect Norwegian VAT at checkout, so you don't pay again at the border. Unfortunately, none of the small regenerative partner shops on Grown. are registered for VOEC. This means:
- You will be asked to pay 25% MVA by the carrier.
- The carrier adds a handling fee (NOK 150–200) for processing customs clearance.
- Pay online via Vipps, card, or bank transfer before delivery.
- Food items (seeds, teas) are excluded from VOEC entirely anyway.
Currency & payment
All three confirmed shops price in EUR. Your bank or card provider will handle the EUR → NOK conversion automatically. For reference:
